Gila Monster Wrestling Survives Weight-Room Tiebreaker, Advances to Duals

IRONWOOD HIGH MAT ROOM— Saturday’s district quad came down to a tie in the 152-pound slot after Ironwood’s Victor Gila hit the scale at 152.0 and Caliche’s Donny Dewclaw did the same—twice. Athletic Trainer Ms. Nighthawk produced a calibration weight; Principal Bobcat thanked the universe for coffee.

League bylaws sent the teams to sudden-victory criteria: cumulative match points, then sportsmanship tally from officials, then—as tradition demands—“rock-paper-scissors witnessed by clergy.” Coach Jake Jackalope of Ironwood threw scissors; Caliche countered rock. The crowd roared like a budget approval at town hall.
